Mindfulness and Meditation
Mindfulness – mindfulness-based approaches
MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy) was developed to prevent the recurrence of depression. It is based on one hand on the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques on the other. MBCT has scientifically documented effectiveness in various problems and affective disorders. It is particularly helpful in better coping with excessive reactivity and emotional problems. Meta-analyses show its effectiveness in depression and anxiety (Goldberg et al., 2018; Haller et al., 2021; McCartney et al., 2021).
In recent years, the MBCT program has been further modified by its creators at the Oxford Mindfulness Center (OMC) to extend to be more usefl for non-clinical population to support people in achieving a more balanced and satisfying life. In this version of the training, greater emphasis is placed on elements of compassion, gratitude, and kindness towards oneself and others. This program is called MBCT for Life (MBCT-L). Therefore, the MBCT-L program is based on classic MBCT, but includes also new elements and practices developing compassion and gratitude.
